Summertime fishing is here and, believe me, we are all stoked about it! One of the things about summer fishing is the abundance of big fish! The snook are in full spawn. These fish are stacked up along most beach shorelines around Sebastian Inlet, Melbourne Beach, and the Vero Beach areas. Fishing for snook right off the beach with live bait is one of my personal favorite charters to run! Lots of big fish and lots of action, what’s not to like!
Right now, there is a mixture of juvenile and big tarpon all along the beaches, especially in the Melbourne Beach area! Look for the pods of glass minnows or any type of birds that are diving, for this is a clear indicator the bigger fish are in the same area. The nearest shore activity can be super good in the summer months. Cobia and kings along with snapper are on top of the hit list for targeted species! As the water clears up these fish move from offshore to near shore. These types of charters are usually guests that would like to take home something to eat plus have steady action catching bigger fish.
The inshore fishing around the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River can be great in the summer! An early start is very important while fishing the river in the summer months. One of the strategies I use is to fish the river early in the morning and then move to deeper water as it heats up. This is a really good strategy if you want to capitalize on a three-quarter day fishing charter or full day. This gives us time to enjoy the early morning bite on the flats, and then late morning we venture out to deeper water to fish the beaches or the Sebastian Inlet.
This concludes my summer 2024 fishing report. I would like to say thank you to everyone that has booked with me over the years, and to all my regulars who always come back! Thank you so much!
